Tasting Table's 2012 Lobster Roll Rumble

Here are my pics from this year's Rumble.  They're not fabulous photos, but I did the best I could given that I was juggling lobster rolls and free wine.

The Hungry Cat.  The bread was kind of stale, but the chives were a nice touch.

Waterbar.  We all liked this one. It was buttery and simple. It reminded us of our first lobster experiences at home, dipping lobster into melted butter.

JCT. Kitchen & Bar. This one was very fresh; a little too much mayo for my liking.

Ditch Plains.  This one had way too much mayo. I recently went to Ditch Plains in the West Village though and loved it.

Luke's Lobster. My favorite roll. It melts in your mouth and has just the right amount of butter and spices.

Lots O'Lobstah. I thought this one was delicious and totally underrated. It was very fresh and lemony.

Littleneck. Not bad, just nothing very special.

B & G Oysters. (Next 2 photos).  Lemony, fresh, and tasty.

Lure. Lure's is really good, and always a contender for my vote. This may or may not be because it has bacon in it.

Island Creek Oyster Bar. This one was very refreshing and had some celery zest on it. I also liked that it was served on toast rather than on a bun.

The Mermaid Inn. This one had a bit too much cayenne pepper on it and was pretty slimy. Not terrible though.

Thames. This one was another seriously delicious contender. It was served Connecticut style (warm) with a side of vinegary cucumbers.

The John Dory Oyster Bar. This was the winning lobster roll, but I'm not sure why. There was a huge line to get to this one, and I was disappointed. It was chewy, and had a huge gob of mayo on the top bun.
