I have a little bit of back tracking to do on recent recipe adventures, but first things first: Luke's Lobster. After Meghan and I finally accumulated enough spare change in the jar (or vase, rather), to treat ourselves to lobster, we initially went over to the then new Luke's Lobster to spend every penny that the little elf in the Coinstar machine turned into dollars. We didn't know at the time that Luke's Lobster was a small place with stools and counters. After so patiently piling up our loose change for months, we were really looking to sit down and be guiltlessly waited on, so we changed our minds and went to Ed's Lobster Bar instead. I've been thinking about trying Luke's ever since, but something always seemed to get in the way.
Today was the day! I got there exactly at noon, which always seems like the first acceptable time to eat lunch. The lobster roll is $14, $8 for a snack sized one, and $2 more to add chips, a soda, and a pickle (called the Schooner). They also have chowders, crab and shrimp rolls, and crab claws. Compared to Ed's $25+ lobster roll (which I also think is delicious though my sister says it is too citrusy), $14 is amazing, and so was the roll. As a lifelong mayonnaise hater, I really loved the melted butter that replaced the mayo, though there may have been a tiny bit of mayo in there - not sure. I also enjoyed hearing the 5 dudes sitting next to me talk about babes and the benefits of long distance relationships (you never have to see her!!!) Anywho...
I have a tendency to develop food obsessions after eating something really good, and I already have the first few symptoms, namely the shakes and needing to eat another lobster roll again as soon as possible. Lucky for me, Steve M. wants to move our weekly lunch from Chinatown to Luke's next week, and I will happily go in armed with my "Lobsta Mobsta" punch card which lets me get my 11th lobster roll for free! Can't wait. 10 more to go...
Oh yes, it is on 7th street between 1st Avenue and Avenue A: http://www.lukeslobster.com/a-lobster-tale/
The lobster roll in riverhead is still my favorite but i'll help you get that 11th roll free!
